Highway Noise Policy Information
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is developing a policy regarding highway noise along the Dulles Toll Road. The draft policy is available for download. A public workshop was held in June 10 and comments were accepted from the public during the month of June.
Here is the latest schedule of next steps (updated February 2011):
- Sound monitoring was conducted in areas along the Toll Road with and without sound walls. This data is being used in the development of a Traffic Noise Model.
- A report of the public comments on the proposed highway noise policy was developed in a Frequently Asked Questions format with MWAA's responses.
- We also reviewed newly adopted (July 2010) Federal Regulations regarding Procedures for Highway Traffic Noise and Construction Noise Abatement to ensure that our policy will be in compliance of this new rule (23 CFR 772).
- A final Dulles Toll Road Highway Noise Policy was approved (February 2011) by the MWAA Board of Directors.
- A traffic noise model is being developed that will be used to implement the highway noise policy.
